From the East
JULY
2010
Greetings from the East
Brethren,
June was a great month for our Lodge. We had a few more Brothers at our dinner and stated meeting and we sill had room for more to attend.
On June 7th I delivered The Ellis Hickman Rice Memorial Scholarship at the Senior showcase for Nipomo High School. The recipient was Brook Phillips. There were three recipients this year. The other two were from Ernest Righetti High School. They were Mary Keelin and Danielle Lowrie. Miss Keelin is a Jobs Daughter.
For the month of July, I would first like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July holiday. On July 23rd there will be a fund raising dinner at Hesperian Lodge for the Grandmasters Project. The time will be 6 PM and the cost is $25.00 per person pre paid. If you plan to attend, please R.S.V.P. to Bob Miller, P.M. at 937-2610. No tickets will be sold at the door. Donations will also be accepted.
On July 31st we will be running the Kid ID Program at the Arroyo Grande Car Show. We need 6 to 7 Brothers to volunteer to help out. We usually meet at Lodge around 7:00am to load tables and supplies and end the day around 4:00pm. It’s a long day so please come on down to the Car Show and have some fun. Any time you can spend will be helpful.
We are in need of Brothers to come to Lodge on Tuesday nights. We will be practicing for the upcoming 3rd Degree. Brother Stanley is getting close to being ready. We always have fun at our practices. On July 6th we have our stated meeting dinner at 6:00pm and meeting at 7:30pm.
Sunshine Report: Brother Doc Holiday has fallen ill with cancer and is getting treatments for it. Please keep him and his family in your prayers and give him a call if you get a chance. Be prepared though, he just might tell you a joke or two. Hang in there Doc and God speed healing.
Our Lodge is in need of a Lodge Ambassador. This would be someone to assist Brothers with questions about member’s benefits, such as Masonic Homes. Please let me know if you are interested.
I am looking forward to the 2nd half of 2010. The first half went by really fast and I have learned a lot. I have also had a lot of fun at the same time. I hope to see you in Lodge this month.
Fraternally,
Cliff Dugger

JULY
2010
Brethren
It's
that time of year again and time to celebrate our freedom. I strongly
suggest that you fly your flag and barbeque your hamburgers or hot dogs,
whichever you prefer. You may even want to wash them down with a wee bit of
bubbly stuff (Coke, Pepsi, or maybe something a little stronger). In any
event, be sure to enjoy a rip roaring Fourth of July!
How, you
may ask, did the editor get this rousing epistle from me since I am supposed
to be vacationing? Well, sometimes everything doesn't go quite as planned.
An innocent visit to one of the "Medical Professionals" that keep me alive
and well in order to relieve the Lodge of the burden of selecting someone
from the long line of brethren anxious to take my job as Secretary,
determined that I should not undertake such a long trip at this time.
Needless to say, I was not happy with his opinion, but after obtaining a
second opinion, I reluctantly took the advice.
Now that
Summer is here and it gets dark much later you should take the opportunity
to come out and see our Officers do their work. Or, as Bill Troxel used to
say, come meet the people that are going to bury you. This Lodge really does
a great job of performing ritual.
Don't
forget our Kids ID Program at the Arroyo Grande Car Show held on the last
Saturday of July. Come volunteer your help, even if you can only spend a
short time with us. This is a great program and is deserving of everyone's
support. See you there.
Fraternally,
Phil Johanknecht, P. M.
Secretary
