Brethren,

Well here we are starting the month of May, and a third of the year is behind us. So far this year we’ve raised two brothers to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Congratulations again to Michael Grubbs and Eric Mason. I have to say it was tricky working my way through the third degree with someone who’s last name is Mason. OK, so we’ve raised two brothers you say. Well if things work out, by the second week of May we’ll have passed four brothers. We’re going to pass two brothers April 30th and two brothers May 8th. And if that doesn’t excite you, Theo Cain will become our newest Entered Apprentice May 21st. Make it a point to come to Lodge and support the brothers in their endeavors.

The weekend of March 23rd was about the busiest I can remember, and I’m not just talking about Masonry. It started with a cornerstone ceremony on Friday in Atascadero, and ended with our 125th Anniversary celebration on Sunday, with our own cornerstone ceremony at the Library in between. All the Grand Lodge Officers were present at the library cornerstone ceremony with the exception of three. After the cornerstone ceremony at the library, the lodge hosted a fundraiser for “Friends of the Library”, and it was well attended.

I would personally like to thank Ed Hawes who cooked and cleaned all weekend long and also the celebration committee, Bruce Carmitchel, Larry Rodriguez, Paul “Bud” Richmond and Dick Dixon. Without the help and support of these brothers this weekend wouldn’t have been the success it was. I can’t wait for the 150th Anniversary. The Grand Master gave me a memento Saturday, at the opening of Grand Lodge. One that I will treasure forever. On one side is the Grand Masters pin, and on the other is the picture you see at the left.

As many of you know, the Lodge has commissioned a commemorative coin to celebrate our 125th Anniversary. I’m expecting it to arrive before April 30th, and we will be giving it out at the May Stated Meeting, so don’t miss out.

Our Stated meeting dinner for May is Chili Verde, Beef Enchiladas, Rice and Beans. For Reservations, you can call either me, Paul Erickson,  Bud Richmond, or Bruce Carmitchel. We will also be honoring William Massa who has become our newest Golden Veteran.

Now that a third of the year is gone it’s time to start thinking about the officers line. Both the Senior and Junior Warden’s have said they will not go on to the Masters Chair, and Bruce Carmitchel, who is very active in the Elks progressive line, is also seeking to be replaced. So Brethren, what are we to do. It was a struggle to fill the line this year. Is there anyone interested in stepping up and getting into the line? Lets not wait until the end of the year, lets start working on tomorrow, today!

Fraternally,

Paul Erickson, Master

Brethren,

We had our monthly meeting on the 27th and a lot was accomplished, in the way of planning process. An inspection was done that night of the interior and a lot of things were found in need of repair and/or replacing. On the 30th we conducted an inspection of the exterior and found that quite a bit of the work that needs to done on the grounds, we can do ourselves. A list was compiled and is available to anyone who would like a copy.

One of the first things is to get rid of the Junipers. It may take us quite a few working parties, but it can be done. It was suggested that we have a working party once a month, (which Saturday is under consideration) with a barbecue of FREE hamburgers and hot dogs for the workers. We don't know yet when this will start, but we are hoping for a good turn out. Remember this is our Lodge, and we want to be proud to say when we drive by with friends "That's my Lodge!" If anyone has any suggestions please let me or any of the Boards members know and we will be glad to discuss them!

This is a great time to get together as Masonic brothers for comradery and brother! Isn’t that why we became Masons! I remember how it was when I was in the Marines and I believe it can be the same here! Thanks again for the Honor of serving Our Lodge!

Fraternally,

Larry Rodriguez, President
