SAN LUIS CHAPTER #62
JUNE
2010
Companions,
Last month was a Big surprise! I thought we wouldn't be able to open but those who said they wouldn’t be at our meeting did in fact come to the meeting. Even though Chris Pfister was injured he still came out and assisted with opening all three Bodies. Our old faithfuls again came through for the York Rite bodies. There was to be a visitation by a few of the Grand Officer but they were ill and could not make our meeting. I Hope Ray Broomfield, who was very sick, is well now! Keep him in your prayers. Also please keep Companion Champion’s wife in your prayers as she is very ill. Let’s give him our support! Also Companion Neblett had a knee operation last month and is recuperating.
Come on out for our Ice Cream Social in July! This is an event that you can come out and meet have fellowship with the Grand Officers of each of the Grand Bodies. Please call the Commander, High Priest or the Illustrious Master and give us your reservations. It is a must so that you can get in the gate.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.
Fraternally,
Gunny
Your High Priest

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNCIL #38
JUNE
2010
Companions, the lodge building wherein our Secret Vault is symbolically housed may soon be restored (at no little expense) to its original grandeur. On June 1st, the Blue Lodge will decide whether to spend $$$ on building beautification. Two of the three great pillars of our fraternity being Wisdom & Beauty, a “great debate” will precede a vote on whether fiscal restraint is the wiser course in 2010, or whether restoring the Grand Entrance to our beloved 1913 edifice, as illustrated below, is worth the investment now – thereby making more visible the Door of Freemasonry to men of quality in our community:

I am sure our ancestral York Rite brethren (pictured above from the early days of our Lodge’s presence at 859 Marsh Street in San Luis Obispo) would have appreciated a spirited yet congenial debate. I hope to see all of you companions at our Craft Lodge for the debate and vote on June 1st!

JUNE
2010
Sir Knights,
York Rite Grand sessions was well attended this year. All proposed legislation passed, and Saturdays drill team competition was the best I’ve seen so far. California #9 won their division with a great performance.
This year’s Grand Sessions had several fun degrees, which both Sir Knight Larry Rodriguez and I attended. As always the best part is renewing friendships made at past Grand Sessions.
I’d like to thank both Sir Knight Robert Bettencourt, and Sir Knight Ron Ritter for covering for me while I was in Washington DC for the Grand Masters Trip. The trip was fun, educational, and crammed with lots of historical sightseeing.
Fred Ervast will be coming to inspect our Commandery at our next stated conclave, June 12th. It would be great to make a good showing and have everyone there.
The next major events to look forward to is Grand Lodge Annual communications, and the Colorado River Fall Festival. I hope to see you at both!
Fraternally,
Paul Erickson, Commander
